3 Benefits of Practicing Gratitude

Happy, Happy Thanksgiving from our team at Charlotte Counseling & Wellness!

To celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving, and National Gratitude Month, we are sharing valuable benefits of integrating the practice of gratitude into your daily life!

  1. A regular practice of gratitude can provide you with a host of mental health benefits! From reducing your stress level to boosting your feelings of happiness and overall wellbeing, gratitude can be a powerful tool for you! And it doesn’t take days, weeks, or months to have an influence – thankfulness can have an immediate effect. Gratitude is shown to decrease your symptoms of depression and anxiety and can even be credited to helping you get that better night’s sleep for which you have been yearning!

  2. Did you realize that practicing gratitude can improve your relationships? What you focus on internally is helpful in allowing you to better appreciate those around you. Extending the expression of gratitude outwardly to others will also go a long way in building and even repairing your connections. By simple acts such as sending thank you notes or giving out verbal and written appreciation, you will naturally strengthen your bond and rapport with those around you!

  3. Before you know it, your brain starts to change and begins seeking out the good things in your life! Ever notice when you focus in on the vibrant colors of a beautiful tree during fall, you seem to notice more beautiful leaves and trees at every turn? Just imagine translating that to your everyday outlook on life! Your brain can begin to do the same. As you count your blessings, your brain will continue to look for more!

While it is nice to focus on being thankful for a special day or month, having an intentional, ongoing practice can provide a multitude of benefits that last throughout the year!

To add to that good news, we also know that practicing gratitude on top of receiving psychological counseling carries greater benefits than counseling alone!
